It’s a plane! (Can someone help me with traveling with needles?)

Plane

Yes!!! I finally booked my flight to Minneapolis for the 22nd of March and it is a non-refundable ticket so I can’t back out, which what I normally would do!  I am so terrified of flying which does makes for a great reason to call the doctor and get some Xanax so I don’t have a panic attack and accidentally jump out of the plane (or someone might just decide to push me out when I start screaming that we are all going to die).

The weirdest part is that I work at a place that makes jets… so how can I be afraid to fly? This is very easy to answer… first I don’t like heights, second I don’t get to fly in our planes, third I’ve only flown once up to Chicago and lastly this time I have to travel all alone – no one to help me or hold me hand!

So being from Savannah I don’t have many winter clothes or they actually aren’t made for anything below… ummm 45º F…. and I haven’t knitted me anything this year so I think I’m either going to be going broke buying clothes or I’m going to freeze solid walking out of the airport and my baby will have to take me somewhere to get me thawed out (ok, well that could be a lot of fun).

I guess I’m going to take the 3 hours to do some knitting.  Now since I have only flown once and that was like 7 years ago I’m not sure the best way to bring my knitting on the plane and what I can or can’t bring.  Can someone help me?

I wonder what my project will look like after a few pills, panic and maybe a drink – this one will be fit for framing or just FROGing it!!!   Maybe I can make a hat with ear flaps… that is something I was so need!

Can ya tell I’m excited about going… wow!!!!

So here are the boots I was thinking of getting but I’m not sure what girls wear up in the North since winter boots are just not needed here for any season.

Tell me what you think about them....

But when I sent this to my friends for their opinion this is what one of them drew for me:(its me in the boots – that is without a head or hands… boy that is creepy).

So I’ve decided to start a hat for me to wear… maybe something like this one?

Swell

It can be found at Knitty.com

Or this might be easy and fast… even warmer (oh what a great word… WARM).

This one is actually at Martha Stewart Living, if you can believe that.

I even love the scarf.  What kind of yard do you think they used for that?

If I get really excited I might start tonight and even get to make a scarf… this one would be awesome!  I just have to quit talking to that boy of mine all night long!

This is actually a Lionbrand Pattern!!

I can not wait to get up to the freezing cold… JK… but going to see my guy AND going to the Mall of America is so worth it!!!!  I just hope I remember to bring everything I need to keep me warm!

Maybe the local headline won't read:

Poor Stupid Little Georgia Girl Freezes to Death on the Streets of Minneapolis!!!!

Happy Happy Joy Joy

OK… so if I thought I couldn’t have a perm-a-grin without some kind of drug I was wrong.  After years of looking I found a lost ex-boyfriend of mine from when I was 17.  We stayed really close friends until I was about 25 when I got married and moved away. Now he lives all the way in Minnesota so that sucks but I’m planning a trip up there to see him (oh boy am I’m going to be a kid in a candy shop).  Now one thing that is going to suck really bad is that as we all know it really COLD up there and being a little southern girl used to being warm, actually love being warm, it isn’t going to be a wonderful thing for me.  Boy 2007 has been so great so far, it’s only 2 months in too!  Well he told me of a song that makes him think of me and smile…  I swear I love that guy to death!

Here is the song....

My nights have been spent talking to him for hours on end instead of knitting.  I think he is melting the ice around my heart and has actually made me cry with happiness.  So this blog is not about knitting but about other happy things.

Man there has been so much going on!  My cats received their new cat tree on Monday.  You would think that after the sweat and all the cussing that I did they would be all over the thing… but nope they aren’t!   Aren’t ALL cats in love with those stupid trees?  Are my cats on strike against me?

Well here is the tree from start to finish…. What a pain!  If I knew that I’d actually have to put the thing together AFTER lugging the 60lb box up my stairs I doubt they would have the tree to ignore.  I got a great deal at www.stepsforpets.com. They have free shipping AND they donate money to a shelter of your choice!!

OK... now you see Trixie was all about this thing BEFORE I put it together...

And this my friends is the "all-in-one" tool...

Oh yeah here is another cool thing.  Sunday is my birthday, hell I’ll be 34 and I am not happy about it.  But today at work a girl gave me the cutest thing ever its a figurine made by Jim Shore,I just love it!!!

New Fugly.... go see

I just posted a new Fugly... check out the Elmo Kid!

So I have finally bought myself a new camera... finally!  I'll post some new pics soon... I've been so busy that I haven't had time to knit or do this blog... my life has turned into working and stressing out all the time and not making time to be happy.  That needs to change if I can just get myself out of this funk!

Here some music:

I'm Anti-Peta?

While writing this I think about my sweet Rufus that was a lost  kitten and I took him in and he is my adopted child now.  However, according to PETA he should have been killed.

First let me say I know PETA has done some great steps towards animal rights but the following information takes all the good away and protrays them as heartless killers.

During my recent trip up to Tenn I saw one of my best friend Stacey, fellow veg-head and animal lover.  She started telling me about how terrible PETA was and to never support them.  I really thought she had went of the deep end.  She owns the sweetest Pitbull Gracie... I'd steal that dog if I could, and she has always been a big supporter against breed-specific dog laws.

Well doing the research myself I found she is right!  Ingrid Newkirk is a crazy woman that has go so far as to believe that NO animal should be kept as a pet, that they are better off dead thrown in dumpsters than having a loving home.  She also has been a strong supporter of a ban on all pit bulls and that they should all be exterminated.  The reason behind this is because she was attacked by one when she was a child.  Now the fucked up part is... I and many others have been attacked by dogs, I even have scars on my face, but I do not blame the dog, the breed, but only the owner.

Newkirk not only supports these horrible acts of killing innocent animals she has actually killed them herself, with her own hands!  How dare this woman criticize others when she is no better!  She is giving a bad name to a group that could be used for good not for her own selfish, underground agendas.  I feel betrayed and horrified.  I actually have supported a group that has done acts that make me sick.  To me jail time would not be enough for this woman and the followers of these acts.

I've attached links to help you follow up on my information.  I know I had to do my own research to believe it wasn't people just beating up on PETA.  So according to Ingrid own figures that in the State of Virginia's control shelters Peta has killed over 80% of the animals every year.

PETA is also been contracted out to shelters as "killers for hire" which brings in a large amount of their revenue. This alone should prove they do not believe in "no kill" shelters.

Now I'm all for Animal Rights and I don't want this to discourage anyone for donating or volunteering to animal right groups/shelters.  The best thing to do is go to your local animal shelter and adopt, volunteer, donate money/food or if you are crafty they are always looking for blankets and toys.

I will leave you with this:

Here is a quote from: PETA's zeal pushes the envelope too far for some:, The Virginian-Pilot, December 3, 2000.

PETA has been the target of criticism by other animal rights advocates. Virginian activist John Newton (formerly of Meower Power) describes the group as "cult-like" adding "If you're not radical enough, they drive you out." Merritt Clifton, founder and editor of Animal People has said "Ingrid Newkirk runs PETA like a guru cult. Sooner or later, everyone who questions her or upstages her in any way, no matter how unintentionally, ends up getting shafted in the most humiliating manner Newkirk can think of." Sue Perna, an animal rights activist and former PETA employee calls Newkirk "an abuser of the human animal" adding "Many of us believe that the further we distance ourselves from PETA, the better off the animal rights movement will be.
